Leadership Lessons

The Positives of the Negative

by ABFRLadmin | September 25, 2020

We at ABFRL present stories excerpted from our internal newsletter ‘In Touch’, where we celebrate our people and their contributions.

Janet Arole, AVP and Head – Corporate Communications, and editor In Touch at ABFRL walks us though the many lessons that pandemic taught us.

We have a reason to smile. While the current pandemic has altered the fabric of our society, life has also given us an opportunity to soak in the small joys that come our way.

COVID 2019 has brought me closer to my family. My 13-year-old son confessed that this lockdown has proved good for him. Why? Being a die-hard foodie, he enjoys the freshly cooked meals prepared by me, which satiates me too. Pre-COVID times, I dont remember putting in so much effort in preparing food on a daily basis.

As a responsible citizen, a committed employee and a mature individual, I choose to look at the positive side of life. Life has its ups and downs and we have all witnessed it at various phases. One singular positive that comes to my mind is the transformation that has taken place since early 2020. We have embraced a new normal since then. As individuals, we have transformed our overall approach and our lifestyle. At an Organization level, our work culture has broken the myths of work life balance with new WFM practices. And the society at large has embraced social distancing as a way of life.

As we walk through this transformational journey, there are bound to be some highs and lows on this path, accompanied with the pain and sacrifice, needless to say. Pause. It is time to introspect. Gone will be the days when we would sit endlessly in traffic hoping to reach from one point to the other in time. The digital world has come to our rescue impacting every single aspect of our lives. Learning and development is now just a click away. DIY has now become the new mantra for each one of us. The education system is undergoing a rapid change that will bring us more benefits and an opportunity to reach to smaller towns and cities where physical infrastructure is weak. The new emerging business models will bring large-scale disruptions to the market.

For a country like ours, with a population of 1.38 billion, digital transformation is going to be the biggest and largest movement that we have witnessed in our lifetime. As we work collectively to come to terms with the pandemic, our minds are continuously working to bring new solutions. This is where the change takes place, creativity will blossom and innovation will thrive.

Change! It the biggest reason that we are here balancing the act. As individuals, our mind sets have changed; our approach towards life, our demands, likes and dislikes, everything has witnessed major shifts in both worlds – real and virtual.

We now have a new us and a new me. Let us take the time to look at newness around us and we will realize that we are blessed!

I am a believer of Karma. In difficult times, the good Karma will come to our rescue.

All is well. Take care, stay safe and be happy.
