What is a Sustainable Product?

Product Sustainability is defined as the feature or characteristic of a product that demonstrates environmental and social impact during its entire life. That is, from the moment the raw materials are extracted from the source to the time the final product is disposed of, there must be no permanent damage caused to the environment.

Organizations that embrace the philosophy of product sustainability understand their responsibility to reduce the environmental impacts of their products. They understand that their commitment towards safeguarding the environment extends to all aspects of the product life-cycle.

ABFRLs approach towards sustainable products is aligned with the commitment to give back more than we take from the earth. Our high-quality products are designed to conserve and rejuvenate the environment through their entire lifecycle, including sourcing of sustainable raw material, sustainable production processes and manufacturing facilities, use of sustainable packaging, and creating sustainable livelihood. At the same time, it is good for our customers health & safety, and the society as well.

Sustainable Raw Material

Sustainable raw material is grown or extracted in a way that has minimal environmental impact, supports sustainable livelihood, and can do so in the face of long-term ecological constraints and socio-economic pressures.

At ABFRL, we aim to source and use sustainable raw materials, such as Live Eco, Liva Reviva and Recycled Polyester / Cotton. Few other raw materials which qualify as sustainable are:

  • BCI Cotton
  • Organic Cotton: OCS and GOTS Certified
  • Wool certified by GRS/RCS
  • Lyocell / Modal / Tencel / Birla Excel fiber/ Lenzing ECOVERO
  • Fairtrade Cotton
  • PIMA/Supima Cotton/ US Cotton Trust Protocol certified
  • Hemp / Linen / Ramie / Bamboo Fiber

Sustainable Production Process

Manufacturing of products using methods, processes, and technologies that shows high efficiency & demonstrates the optimization of resources used, comes under the sustainable production process.

We use various eco-friendly technologies and processes which are considered sustainable such as –

  • Eco Dyeing 
  • Foam Dyeing, which consumes less water
  • Laser Printing, 3D printing
  • Natural, Herbal or Vegetable Dyes including Earth Colours, Coffee Beans among others.
  • Any process that involves using fewer natural resources, water, energy and chemicals among others.

Sustainable Manufacturing Facilities

Manufacturing at facilities (Textile Mills & Garment Units), which demonstrate the highest standard of environmental and social practices and have certifications such as LEED certification, ISO 9000, 14000, Higg Index, OKEO-TEX, ZDHC, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) and Renewable Energy sources including Solar and Wind.

Sustainable Packaging

Packaging practices that demonstrate Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle characteristics are considered sustainable packaging.

We aim to use 100% sustainable packaging material (currently 88%) by usage of Certified Materials and less-pollutant packaging items. Some of the sustainable options in packaging are FSC certified paper, Bio-degradable Material and Recycled Materials.

Sustainable Livelihood

Manufacturing of products using methods, processes, and technologies that shows high efficiency & demonstrates the optimization of resources used, comes under the sustainable production process.

We drive sustainable livelihood through products and by promoting local Artisans and cluster development. Art forms such as Ikkat, Khadi, Ajrak, Madhubani and Kalamkari are being used in our products.
